Lately, I’ve been fascinated with lumpy, curvy, misshapen, colorful blobs. I plop them in my journal and then use an art pen to turn each one into a little independent design. It is relaxing. Almost meditative, actually, in an art therapy kind of way.
Sometimes, while I’m painting and drawing, I post process photos on my Instagram. I posted a few photos this afternoon, and my friend Amie Plumley (author of the wonderful Sewing School books) suggested that the little flower designs would make great Mother’s Day cards. So smart! Idea swapping is the best.
I quickly set off to work. Twenty minutes later I had cards cut and blobs painted. I spread them out on the floor to dry:
The 87 degree (!!) weather meant that the cards were dry within 30 minutes. Yay, summery spring! Once they were completely dry, I drew designs on each one.
You, too, could pull these off in an hour or two. Promise.
Flowery, breezy, hammock swinging wishes to all the mamas out there!
