Happy autumn, friends! Today marks the first day of the Red Bird Crafts blog tour for Show Me a Story. Way back in the frosty afternoons of January 2011, I was typing with my Sophie cat snuggled on my lap dreaming of the days when I’d get to send my creation into the world. The time is here and I am a bit weak in the knees with happiness.
I asked my dear friend Catherine Newman to kick it off. For those of you who don’t already go to Catherine’s blog Ben & Birdy for perfect, healthy, delicious recipes to feed your family, you really should check it out. Seriously! So many of her recipes have become standards in our family, and I rely on her weekly posts to broaden our culinary adventures (ie. pigless blt’s and Japaense Restaurant Spinach with Sweet and Salty Peanut Dressing). You also might visit her blog because she is one of the funniest people ever and she will make you laugh at things that you forgot were funny. Oh, and she makes things like beet heart prints, which speak directly to my heart.
Catherine’s children are creative, clever and tremendously kind, and so I was honored when I heard that her Birdy has been spending time with my book (even marking lots of pages with post-its!). Catherine asked me into her home one day to show me her coffee table, which was covered in bits of paper, stones, Story Stones, and Mod Podge pots (covered so they wouldn’t dry out). Ben and Birdy were there with smiles — piecing and gluing and showing me their creations. Up until that point, I had heard stories of children independently and joyfully delving in to the book, but I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. Watching their sweet, enthusiastic faces telling me how much they were enjoying the project is a moment that will stay with me forever. Thank you, Birdy and Ben!
You can read Catherine’s review here where you can leave a comment for a chance to win a copy. Thank you, sweet C.
